What is Bahjatul Fu’ad?

In the last decade, we’ve engaged our community in a journey of transformation through education and service. From children’s madrasas to courses for adults, spiritual retreats and prophetic sports, OCC continues to provide opportunities for individual development and community cohesion. But we’ve outgrown the facilities that accommodate our work.

Now the UK Muslim Community is giving back. Millions are combining their Sadaqah Jariyah to help us build Bahjatul Fu’ad -a centre which will house our services, and more, under one roof.

Will you join us to make it happen?

A place of worship

Musallah Awwabeen

Bahjatul Fu’ad will house a prayer hall, serving as a place for worship, dialogue, and learning. It will be a safe space for reflection and connection, where the worshiper can gain spiritual repose and sakinah (peace); and where people can come to renew their sense of belonging and unite in prayer.

The mosque complexes of past Muslim cultures (like the Ottomans) housed hammams, libraries and places of learning, all built around a mosque-centric campus. It was a model that provided optimum benefit to society on many levels.

This is what we are working to achieve with Bahjatul Fu’ad, by building different facilities/sections of the centre, around the prayer space, with each phase of development.

A place of learning

Serene Montessori Nursery & Primary School

Education is at the forefront of our work, and it begins with early development. Bahjatul Fu’ad will house a Montessori nursery; a child-centred learning environment focused on the spiritual and psychological welfare of children. Here, children will learn organically through the experience of play, developing natural interests and activities.

The primary years of a child’s life have a profound impact on their minds, characters and the habits they form. The ‘serene’ child has a natural aspiration and desire to know and comprehend the world around them. This is what we aim to achieve through the Serene Montessori Nursery.

A place of healing

Emotional Wellbeing Centre

Mental health problems are on the rise, affecting 1 in 6 people, in England, in any given week. But for counselling and therapy to be effective, they must be culturally relevant. Muslims need access to mental health support that offers an Islamic perspective on the issues they face.

Bahjatul Fu’ad will house an Emotional Wellbeing Centre, providing mental health and wellbeing services. The centre will:

  • Offer support through counselling for individuals, couples, and families.
  • Raise awareness of mental illness within our communities.
  • Tackle the taboos, stigma and discrimination that are often associated with people experiencing mental health and wellbeing difficulties.
  • Facilitate self-help and group workshops for individuals and families who are experiencing mental health and wellbeing problems.
  • Offer diet- and exercise-focused support as a holistic way of improving wellbeing.

Islam and our prophetic traditions give us many tools to improve wellbeing. Empowered with these, our communities can be better equipped to tackle mental health issues and support individuals suffering from them.

A place of wellness and development

Prophetic Sports & Spa Centre

Bahjatul Fu’ad will house a wellness centre accommodating a martial arts dojo and segregated spa facilities. Here children and adults alike will be able to learn and practice prophetic sports. The spa will provide therapeutic services aimed at renewing the body, mind, and soul.

Societies (particularly in the developing world) are becoming increasingly more sedentary, with over 70% of adults spending their waking hours in a seated position. Inactivity has a detrimental impact on physical and mental health. As a community, we need to become more active through engaging in meaningful pursuits which invigorate the body and mind.

The centre will enable our community to benefit from these Prophetic Sports and complimentary healing traditions.

A place of learning and transmission

The Conference Centre

The Bahjatul Fu’ad Conference Centre will be where OCC courses, seminars and lectures are held, under a single roof. It will be a space of learning, discourse and the exchange of knowledge and ideas. And, where adults find a wealth of opportunities for personal, intellectual and spiritual growth.

The conference centre will also offer office spaces and a conference hall for hire. It will host the lectures of visiting academics and scholars and facilitate a wide range of public and social events including functions, workshops and training sessions.

A safe and holistic space for education, transformation and service to the wider community.

Bahjatul Fu’ad will create employment, raise the intake of our madrasas and weekend schools and allow us to offer services we previously didn’t have the capacity for. It will be a safe space, welcoming to all, for seekers of all ages and backgrounds to find benefit and solace.

Sustainable Endowments

After the initial stages of development, which will be financed through fundraising, Bahjatul Fu’ad will be completed and maintained on sustainable endowments. This means that all profits gained through the services we provide at one centre/facility will go into building another.

A Unified Vision

It will take a number of years to fulfil our vision of Bahjatul Fu’ad as an all-encompassing space for education, transformation and service. But the journey is one that will be worthwhile. Will you join us?
